The Blazers are global

I ran across this today and thought it was pretty cool.

41-41

Well, it isn't the 42 I was hoping for but it's pretty darn good all things considered. Not many people expected the Blazers to have a .500 season. Congratulations guys. Great great season! The 13 game winning streak was the BEST!

I was angry to see Jarrett Jack get tossed out of the Phoenix game. Yes, he was clearing space with his arm but he did NOT throw any punches. I was angry with Skinner for being a jerk. I don't recall that sort of behavior from him when he was a Blazer. Oh well, it's over now. I'm glad that it happend in PHX and not at the final home game.

Now it's time to ponder the future. Who will stay? Who will go? I don't want to speculate just yet. The draft is next and that is going to be very interesting and possibly telling of what direction Pritchard will ultimately decide to go. Will he draft point guards? Centers? PF's? Shooting guards? Pritchard will likely go for the best player at each draft point, as he should. If ever a man had a stacked deck, Kevin Pritchard does. I think KP has become one of the most powerful men in the NBA.

Imagine if the Blazers somehow, miraculously, get the #1 pick again? Could it happen? Would it? Kevin Pritchard seems to be the "chosen one" as of late. Don't be shocked if that little ping pong ball shines the light on KP once again. of course, the odds aren't in our favor, but then again, were they last year?

Hmmmmm....

....and the number one pick in the 2008 NBA draft goes to......

GO BLAZERS!

P.S. Tiny prediction: Dallas doesn't get past the first round. Avery is fired. Brown becomes new Dallas coach.

41 and counting...

Last night, the Blazers proved you can live or die by the three. The Blazers nailed 13 three pointers last night and crushed Memphis 113-91. Memphis killed us in the paint and only hit 5 of their 3's. Take away the 3's and Memphis wins. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy the Blazers won and enjoyed each and every make from "downtown". Seeing Travis get back to back reverse dunks was a treat as was Josh McRoberts' big throw down. Channing Frye once again made a case for himself with 16 points and 7 rebounds. 7 guys scored in double digits and Roy got his double double (16-11). Mr. Jones found his rhythm hitting 6 of the Blazers 13 three pointers. We had a bit of foul trouble and Lamarcus had to exit the game with 6. With this being the 41st win, the Blazers have guaranteed at least a .500 season. There is still a lot of hope to get #42 tonight. I heard Jarrett Jack speak of "revenge" last night. The Blazers want a win against PHX. They remember the thumping PHX gave them in PDX. I think they can do it.

What last night's game highlighted for me was how desperately the Blazers need a presence under the basket. Thankfully the Blazers were able to compensate by raining 3's all night long. Joel is decent. Frye is decent. Greg Oden will be dominant. I would really like to see the Blazers keep Channing and use him along with Joel to compliment Greg. I get very happy thinking about what a force the Blazers will likely be next year. I CAN'T WAIT! I am still trying to convince myself I need season tickets! It has not been easy getting tickets this year and it's going to be worse next year.

I want to take a minute to address something that happened last night. We sat behind what could possibly be the rudest "Blazer fans" I have ever encountered. It really put a sour note on the night for me. I hesitate to call them Blazer fans because I don't think their character fits with the program. These two persons, a man and a woman, had seats directly in front of us. They proceeded to stand, not cheering mind you, but just stand at points in the game where most fans remain seated. Now, annoying as this was I could deal if it was just me. I was getting ticked because it was forcing my mom to have to stand up so she could see. This is not so easy for her. It's not as if it was those times during a game where everyone gets up and cheers. That is different and we stand up at those times too. I finally tapped the man on the arm and asked if they'd mind sitting down. His response was "uh, yes I would mind, this IS a basketball game", his gal pal chimed in with a "sheesh". If my mom wasn't there...%(&!#)%&)!%*@!!*%&)!%&)!%&...... anyway, I quickly said "I understand that but it's hard on my mom to get up and down". They ignored me. The guy had an empty seat next to him and would not even step to the side so he could stand and mom could see. Trust me, my mom would never complain, this is all me. I'm getting mad all over again!!!!

Anyway, I want to say thank you to my good friends in section 318 because at half time they made sure we were seated better and we were able to enjoy the rest of the game with people who know "game etiquette", people who are mindful of their fellow fans. These are the people that deserve to be called Blazer fans. So, to the schmucks who were sitting in 318, row L, seats 19-20, shame on you. You don't deserve the title "Blazer fan". I'm ashamed of you. Get over yourselves and stay home next year.

OK, I feel better. I have felt compelled to rant about this. Deep breath.

Great win for the Blazers. Well deserved and all the thanks goes to them for all their hard work this season. Next year is going to be glorious.

Here's to getting 42! I know you can do it!

BTW, be sure to check out Josh McRobert's dunk! Throw it down big man! THE DUNK
(I will post the rest of my pics from last night tonight)

Still buzzing!

tip off

I have to say that the Blazer-Laker game Tuesday night was without question one of the finest Blazer games I have EVER attended. This game proves that these Blazers are not quitters. Every time the Lakers were appearing to make one of their famous come backs, whether on their own or with the help of a few "special" whistles (or non whistles), the Blazers dug deep and fought hard to defend their home court. The fans were awesome cheering the team on and making sure Kobe knew how much Blazer fans appreciate him. *wink*

I was very impressed with Channing Frye. I have always liked him and was happy to see him make a case for himself. We need him on the bench next year. Brandon was the warrior we have come to know. When he got body slammed by Odom my heart sank. I was really proud of Travis for taking a stand for his team mate. It's nice to see such passion in a team. Our guys have learned to hold their tongues and keep their emotions in check. In this case, what Travis did was spot on correct. It was good to see Jones hitting threes again. Everyone contributed, everyone played hard. The Blazers wanted this game and it showed.

I am completely satisfied with this season. Beating L.A. in this fashion when the Lakers truly needed the win makes it even better. I heard that Chris Paul actually texted a thank you to Antonio Harvey. That made me laugh. GREAT GREAT win Blazers! Congratulations.

I have said that 42 is still a possibility. It really can happen!

Bad news bad news

With one attempted block, Joel Przybilla is out for the season. During yesterday's game against the Spurs, Joel broke his hand while trying to block a shot. Joel has given us everything he has all season. He's had a special year. He deserves a standing ovation for a job well done. It's awful to see this happen to such a special guy. I wish him all the best.

Things just aren't getting any better for Portland as they fight for these last few games. On top of losing Joel, it's likely that Martel will not return either. Martel was sent to the hospital Saturday with flu like symptoms. It turns out that he has heart arrhythmia and today he will be seen by a cardiologist. This is very much the same thing that happened last year with LaMarcus Aldridge. It's eerie how these things keep happening to this team.

In spite of it all the guys that are still playing are playing hard. Brandon, knowing his team needs him, came back a bit earlier than he normally would have from his groin injury. He toughed it out yesterday but it was clear he was still sore. Yesterday's loss was the 5th in a row. I'm still confident that we will not lose the rest of the season but the Blazer quest to have a winning season is in eminent danger. One thing is for certain, these guys are not quitters. They are facing the giant with pride and purpose. I'm going to cheer until they all cross the finish line. I'm a proud Blazer fan. I KNOW better days are ahead.

Good news and bad news

There is good news and there is bad news.

First the bad news. The Blazers have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. The Blazers have lost 4 in a row. If not having Brandon wasn't bad enough, the Blazers had to face Houston without Martel Webster who is fighting the flu. The remaining schedule is still daunting.

The good news is that Brandon's MRI was negative and he is going to try and return for the San Antonio game. Even better is that this next game isn't until Sunday, which means it's possible we will have Martel back too. A little practice time won't hurt any either!

I still believe, with all players available, that we can snag at least the 3 we need to land at .500. We CAN beat LA. We CAN beat Sacramento. We CAN beat Dallas or the Clips.

So Blazer fans, tell the fat lady to put a sock in it, this thing isn't over yet!

Brandon Roy's return "iffy"

This is not what I wanted to see but I guess I'm not surprised. Brandon has to undergo an MRI to determine if there is damage to his right groin. If there is, he will miss the rest of the season, 8 games. Results will likely be known today.

This is such a bummer. We were so close to ending with a winning record. Today we are at 38-36 with 8 games to go. We must win 3 of these to break even at .500. We would end 41-41. (oh alright-thanks BP)(don't forget my bobblehead!)

What is scary is who is on the schedule for these next 8 games. 2 are the Lakers, 2 are with Phoenix, one here, one there. Then we have Houston, San Antonio, Sacramento, Dallas, and Memphis.

Sacramento SHOULD be a win, it's at the Rose Garden which helps. Dallas is a maybe. I hope we get our usual miracle game against LA, at least one of them.

I don't know, without Brandon this is going to be one big hurdle for the Blazers. One thing is for sure, it's a chance to see what these guys are made of. Suffice it to say, the Blazers and their fans, are paying their dues! It has been a one step forward, two steps back year for sure!

I'm not completely ready to rule out a 42 win season. If Martel and Travis can hold court on the floor, we may be pleasantly surprised! Come on guys, lets get 4 more!

Blazers waive Greg Oden!

The Blazers are simply tired of Greg Oden's antics. With all the work the Blazers have done to improve public perception of the Blazers, it was decided that it would be best to just let the kid go before the damage he has caused becomes unrepairable.

Naming his dog after Charles Barkley was only a first step down a rocky road for Greg. When he starting blogging and actually communicating with the media he began bringing national attention to Portland. People started saying good things about the Blazers. The Oregonian even started being nice! Next came positive articles from the Tribune and ESPN! Shocking, I know! Next Greg let his uncle give him a crazy hair cut that was so bad that it actually got a nickname, the "frohawk".

It had gotten so bad that it became almost impossible to watch a nationally televised game without the commentators gushing about what a great team the Blazers have become and what fantastic chemistry they have. Pathetic. Will they ever shut up? If you look in the crowds during these games you actually see Blazer jerseys!

As if this wasn't bad enough, games began selling out and nobody could get tickets without going to Craig's list!

Lastly Greg had the audacity to actually try and PLAY basketball! How could he do it? Why would he want people to see how good he is? All it did was bring even more attention. Sheesh, somebody has to make this stop. What next, another R.O.Y.?

I'm glad the Blazers finally realized what needed to be done!

The Blazers can now go back to being called the "jailblazers" and holding press conferences to play power games with the local newspapers. They can watch their televised games and be comforted by the cruel words of the commentators. The Blazers can now retreat back to their dark world where negative attention is better than nothing at all. The fans can return to checking the news every morning to see what Blazer has been busted. Ticket holders will now be stuck with all their unused tickets and be able to buy Blazer gear at garage sales, just like the good old days.

Whew, I sure am glad that's all over! April Fools! Love you Greg! Thanks for everything you have done for us! :)
