6th man

I don't know about you but I take my job as 6th man very seriously. I think there are certain things we can do as fans that positively affect the universe and tip it in favor of our team.

On game days I MUST wear my Blazer watch (I have it on today). I have learned that I must wear it all day and not just at game time. I MUST wear Blazer socks to all home games and during all post season games whether at home or away. (I will have them on at game time). My mom participates in this ritual as well. Post season games require a bit more effort because the counter effort of the opposition is great. To do this I make sure I wear Blazer clothing to the games and at home when they are on the road. Post season home games require at least some face paint. However, I did have full face paint for game 1 and it didn't work out so well. Game 2 was just a tattoo and of course, we know how well that worked!

There is also game gear that must be used. My two favorites are clappers and bells. I am not a big fan of the bangers because they obstruct the view of my fellow blazer fans. They are also not noisy enough. I had the opportunity to speak with Larry Miller regarding the need for the Blazers to pass out more noise makers as mine are becoming worn. In fact, I had to resort to light up clappers from the dollar store. They are working nicely though :) Mr. Miller told me he would make my request known.

Noise makers require skill though. They are only effective if used properly. Clappers are for general noise, use whenever clapping is needed. Bells are for 3's and great plays. Use BOTH when the opposition is at the line for a free throw. Screaming and yelling is always helpful too!

My neighbors always know when the Blazers are on TV :)

Blazer fans are the best in the world and are known to be the loudest. I do my part, do you? I'll be listening!

On the road again...

1 home game down, 1 road game and 1 more home game to go.

The Blazers dug deep and gutted out a great win last night. Brandon got 25 with the flu, L-train matched him with a sprained elbow and thankfully Nate understands that in this series, it's time for more Rudy and less Batum! Travis is looking better with each game. Now the guys can go into Houston feeling much more confident. We all know what a confident 2009 Blazer team can do.

This is where having a young team may pay off in that our guys are just getting warmed up and the Rockets are beginning to fade. Old legs versus young legs. Certainly Yao is wishing this were over! Ice up old man, the Blazers are going to run you silly!

Game 6 is now a reality and you and I both know that this team is going to give it all they got tomorrow night. I believe that the Blazers "got more" than the Rockets.

Tell the fat lady to put a sock in it!

Listen up folks, this thing ain't over.

Sure, the odds are not in our favor and the task before us is daunting....

or is it?

All the Blazers have to do is win 1 road game and 2 home games. With 2 road games being VERY close it's very conceivable that something is gonna give and the Blazer will snatch the road game. Add to this that the remaining games are at home and you have a very real shot at getting 3 wins in spite of so-called odds.

Houston has choked and can choke. The Blazers have had their backs to the wall and come back strong. The playoffs are a war, a series of battles. We have another battle before us and it's on our turf. Let's take it one battle at a time. Tonight, let's win that home game!

Winning this series is still possible. That is all that matters right now.

No more monkeys

OK, now that the Blazers have the bad monkeys off their backs, they should be on track to play Blazer basketball the way we all have come to expect.

Monkey #1-"We can NOT lose a playoff game".
Been there, done that, move on.

Monkey #2-6 game winning streak.
Winning streaks ALWAYS come to an end so starting at 0 is a good thing!

Monkey #3-"OMG we are in the playoffs".
Nerves should be calmer now that the show is on.

It's time for the Blazers to play with nothing to fear. Play your game Blazers and let the cards fall where they will. Even though we lost by 29 points, we still outscored Houston in the paint 50-32. The Blazers played stiff and scared. The outside shots wouldn't go. It easily could have been nerves. I am anxious to see how well the Blazers shake it off. I believe they will. This team has showed us one thing consistently all year long, these guys are NOT quitters.

It's going to be fine Blazer fans. Don't quit on the team now. They need us.

Thank you Rasheed, Bonzi and Zach

Holy cow what a season!

I have to wonder what Rasheed Wallace & Bonzi Wells are all thinking now? I say we thank them because if it weren't for their bad behavior and bad attitudes, we wouldn't be where we are today.

So, here's a hardy Thank You shout out to Rasheed, Bonzi and Zach!

It's truly a great day to be a Blazer-fan!

This is awesome!

The entire area is going nuts over the Blazers. I have hardly been able to work due to people talking to me all day about the Blazers. I certainly don't mind because there is nothing else to talk about today! The way the guys have been blowing out teams is fantastic. It's almost too much to take in. What a beautiful story the Blazers have become.

[si-nair-ee-oh, -nahr-]

Scenario: an imagined or projected sequence of events, esp. any of several detailed plans or possibilities...

Possibilities?

*If POR, HOU, and SAS win, Portland gets the 4th seed and would host SAS.
*If POR, HOU, and NOH win, Portland still gets the 4th seed and would still host SAS.
*If POR, DAL, and NOH win, Portland gets the 3rd seed and would host NOH.
*If POR, DAL, and SAS win, Portland gets the 4th seed and would host HOU.
*If DEN, DAL, and NOH win, Portland gets the 4th seed and would host SAS.
*If DEN, DAL, and SAS win, Portland gets the 5th seed and HOU would host POR. (Yuck)
*If DEN, HOU, and NOH win, Portland gets the 4th seed and would host SAS.

I have to credit "ABM" for these scenarios, he's a bonafide Blazer homer that loves to point out these things;) I have a feeling there are even more but I think this is enough to make the point.

It's enough to make your head spin. The constant in all of this is "If". I say, If Portland simply plays the way they have proven over and over that they are capable of that they could literally go all the way. The ONLY team to give us trouble as of late is Houston so if you want to help the cause, cheer for any scenario that removes Houston from the equation![i-kwey-zhuhn, -shuhn] A complex of variable elements or factors

Did you imagine in your wildest dreams that we'd be in this position this year?!!!

Beating LA

There is nothing better for a Blazer fan than seeing the Blazers beat the La*ers. These games bring out all the emotion of that terrible game 7. It's a wound that all Blazer fans share. La*er hatred is justified in ways that only a Blazer fan can understand. The next big step will be beating the La*ers at Staples Center. I don't know about you but I smell blood. It may not come this year (it could) but it's coming. Yes indeed Blazer fans, the La*er's dominant days are numbered and nobody has their number like the Blazers do.

I want to give a shout out to my friend Lana who experienced her first Blazer-La*er game last Friday. Now she knows....welcome to the family Lana!

Rip City Rising!

During this Easter week where thoughts are on the resurrection, there is another taking place before our very eyes. Now don't get me wrong, I am not declaring the Blazers the saviours of mankind, but I am going to say that this particular group of young men have single handedly resurrected Rip City.

Rip City has been dead and buried for several years. Blazermania extinct. There have been diehards trying to make something out of nothing and I applaud their efforts. Still, it has taken the blood sweat and tears of a battle scarred group of fearless competetors that never say never and never give up to raise Rip City from the dead.

Everywhere you look you see it. Total strangers dressed in red and black are high fiving each other in the streets. Flags and bumper stickers are proudly displayed in yards and on cars. Stores are fighting to have the best deals on Blazer gear. ESPN and TNT are rearranging their schedules to make room for Portland. Horns are honking and fists are pumping. Rip City is gaining it's strength, it's heart is beating stronger each day. It is indeed a great day to be a Blazer fan!

I've been far too busy to keep up with this blog this season but I'm not missing a Blazer beat. We are in the playoffs once again and we are coming on strong. The future of Rip City is very bright and I could not be more proud our team. Yes, our team. In a world of uncertainty Blazer fans can know one thing for sure, we can depend on this team to give us their all. We owe them the same.
