Blazers-Sonics and a rant.

First I have to rant. We had the WORST seats I have EVER had at the Rose Garden! We had to watch the game through fingerprint ridden plexiglass! Add to this we had people walking in front of us all night long. Never again will I blindly accept tickets from a blazer ticket rep! These should have been discounted as "obstructed view" seats. Always check to see if your seat is anywhere near a stairwell! STAY AWAY!

I also have to rant about TNT games. Good grief! We went to the game early to be sure and get the Brandon Roy bobblehead. Little did we know the game wouldn't start until 7:45! I live 45 minutes away from Portland. We didn't get home until midnight. I am SO glad I took the day off to rest up for tonight! It's a good thing because I am at war with some sort of bug that is making me cough. Suffice it to say, I'm not in the best of moods! I feel cruddy and I'm tired.

The game itself was OK. I am really worried about our sudden inability to hit free throws! Thankfully Jarrett hit the big ones and we got the win. It was touch and go and I think I would have lost my mind if we went into O.T.! I do think the Blazers are not going to the basket enough. I love the 3 as much as anyone but it's true, you either live or die by the 3. I suppose when you aren't hitting free throws it may be the better option. Nah, that's an excuse. Anyway, we got a MUCH needed win and right now, that is good enough.

I will be in Seattle tonight. We will be all decked out in our Blazer finest. In spite of how I'm feeling, I am looking forward to it. I hope we can find a parking space before half time! UG

Oh yes, the BEST sign I saw last night said "Blaze the Okies".

How's about Greg Oden's new haircut? I laughed very hard at that. How lucky are we to have such a fun loving guy such as G.O.? I can't wait to see what all he does next year, both on and off the court. He just makes me smile.

Here are my pics from last night.

Blazers need a group hug

Last night on the way home from the game I was listening to the post game show. Joel Przybilla was interviewed and asked what he thought might be the problem, why the Blazers are seemingly "without swagger". Joel's response caught my attention, he said "we're pulling apart". He tried to adjust his words by following up with "we're still a team", then he went on to say "guys are going off and doing their own thing on D" (OK-I paraphrased this one because I can't remember it verbatim) still, it is pretty much what Joel said. He did continue and say that he feels they can pull things back together and still make a run for the playoffs. He said they need to get their confidence back.

I want to say something about Joel saying "we're pulling apart". The way this was said indicated to me that Joel feels that the closeness of the team has waned. This is understandable. Guys went their own ways for the all star break. Team confidence was seriously wounded when AI hit the winning shot February 4th. I think a lack of confidence can affect how the team interacts with each other. It all matters.

A LOT can be said about a team that is made up of "friends" versus "talented players". When you have both, the result is a 13 game winning streak. I also firmly believe that James Jones is a key component to the team. It isn't just his 3's, he is a very good defender and he helps spread the floor which helps the Blazers find, and make, shots. The guys found their swagger with James on the floor, they lost it when he left. James Jones is our "X" factor.

I'd like to see the guys find a way to win without him, and they will, but I don't expect the magic to return until 1. The guys buddy up and 2. James Jones is suited up to play.

I think a group hug is in order. It's time for some male bonding! ;)

Blaze's version of the "Superman Dunk"

This was the funnest part of last night's game against Sacramento. It's late tonight, I'll talk about the game tomorrow.

FYI-Total Eclipse of the Moon Wed night

Let's hope the skies are clear enough and that we are celebrating an eclipse of the King's as well!

The eclipse begins at 7:01 PST Wednesday, February 20.

Thank you Dwight and Gerald!

The FUN is back in the NBA. Dwight Howard's "Superman Dunk" has given the NBA a much needed boost of energy. With this one single moment, joy returned to the NBA. I'm so glad I was watching live!

Let's not forget Gerald Green's "Birthday Cake Dunk". While not as funny, it also helped make the slam dunk contest return to center stage. Great job Gerald!

Note to Blazer fans...

I know the last few weeks have been a bit tough on Blazer fans. Our 13 game winning streak was such a high that coming down to earth has been a bit painful. Still, we Blazer fans have a lot to be proud of and have so much to look forward to! We have a TEAM that others ENVY. We have a FUTURE that others FEAR!

This is why we can be proud:

This is our future that others fear:

Chin up Blazer fans! Great days are ahead!

11 for 21

In the words of the Schonz, "you gotta make your free throws"!

With 10 more free throws the game would be 93-95...winnable? Absolutely. Brandon was not on his game and the rest of the team seemingly went to sleep. My man Travis was no where.

Man, winning is much more fun. We have Brandon back but being without James Jones for 3-5 weeks is going to really hurt. It's time for someone from the white unit to step up.

On to Dallas...

GO BLAZERS!

B-Roy returns

Welcome back Brandon, boy were you ever missed!

Brandon is expected to return tonight when the Blazers play Houston. The last two games have shown how dependant the Blazers are on Brandon.

I was surprised at how poorly we played without Brandon. His leadership is clearly needed. It's going to be a tough match up but having Brandon will at least give us a chance.

No Brandon Roy tonight in Detroit

Brandon Roy will not play tonight. There has been a death in brandon's family. There has been a death in his family. I know Brandon has everyone's deepest sympathies. He is expected to return to the team at Houston.

It's a good opportunity for someone else to step up. I expect it to be Martel Webster.

Jerm and Z-Bo to swap teams?

I found this story this morning. It sounds like there is a chance that Zach Randolph and Jermain Oneal may be swapping teams.

Lady flips bowls onto her head while balancing on unicycle

This was the halftime show at the game last night. I know halftime shows can be corny but there are some that I enjoy, this is one of them. I think it's impressive.

*sorry about the rough ending. I was holding up people trying to return to their seats and it was either move NOW or get trampled!*(whoever you are-thanks for being patient)

There are some things better left unknown....

I had never heard of such a thing, now I wish I never did!

For the google searchers, I already did: Balut

Portland wins another nail biter.

I went to the game last night. It was fun, albeit we didn't enjoy walking in the wind and rain from the Max and back to the Max! We actually saw lightening last night! Did anyone else see that? Odd. Anyway...

My first thoughts are that I did not like the new line up with Webster coming off the bench. I thought it seemed really awkward. I like Travis being first off the bench. Nate, fix that, K? Webster deserves to start and he plays better when he does.

I was surprised by the general silence in the arena during the first half. I am concerned that the Blazers have been playing so well that fans are already becoming complacent and "expecting" the Blazers to win. We need to remember that this team is EXCEEDING ALL EXPECTATIONS and that is reason to be loud and proud. Spoiled? Of course, when the game got exciting at the end the Blazer fans erupted with chants and cheers right on queue, myself included. The end was a nail biter and worth every bit of effort it took to get there.

Now, what I really am wondering about is JJ. Jarrett Jarrett Jarrett. What will we do with him? I like the guy fine. I know he goes to the basket at the request of Nate. I applaud his efforts. He has great moments. JJ has GOT to learn ways to hang on to the ball! I am finding it harder and harder to make excuses for his high level of turnovers. Is the level high because he is running into traffic? Roy doesn't turn it over at this rate and he too goes to the basket. Steve Nash? Tony Parker? It is very possible to not lose the ball in those situations. If he was able to hang onto the ball while in traffic he'd get more whistles and earn trips to the stripe. I am frustrated. I think a part of JJ's practice should be dribbling into the lane while the rest of the team slaps the heck out of him and keep doing it until he stops losing the ball. One thing I have been noticing though, Brandon goes to the basket a bit to the side, JJ goes straight up the middle, maybe that's the difference? I'm not mad about JJ's behind the back pass against Denver. That stuff happens. Even so, it's all good for now. I'm enjoying seeing this team blow all expectations out of the water!

It was fun to be at a game for once. I miss having my season tickets but not getting home til 1 AM was a brutal reminder of how difficult it is to maintain this routine at a 44 game level. If I lived in Portland, it would be a no brainer!

I think the team is doing fantastic! I'm planning to buy a Travis shirt and probably an all-star one as well. Yep, I'm drinking the kool-aid and I'm enjoying every drop of it!

GO BLAZERS!

P.S. Thanks for the Chalupa Brandon, even if you weren't trying to make the shot! ;)

The best SuperBowl ad bar none!

I thought most of the commercials this year were pretty lame. I actually enjoyed the game more! Congrats to the Giants!

The one big laugh I got was seeing D-Wade finally make it into Charles Barkley's "fave five":
