Ruben Patterson has done the "seemingly" impossible.
Ruben is actually winning the hearts and pens of Portland media! Not long ago he was praised by KATU. In today's Portland Tribune, Ruben is being praised by Dwight James. A man who commonly rips the Blazer players apart.
This is a big deal. It is shining proof that Ruben is a keeper. If Nash trades him now he will most certainly be run through the Portland media meat grinder.
*Take note that DJ still manages to get a dig in at Maurice Cheeks:
"If you think the Trail Blazers play better with Ruben Patterson on the court, I know two things about you:1. You’ve been paying close attention to the team’s first 14 games.2. You probably aren’t coaching the team. One way to examine a player’s impact is to study how his team does when he is on the floor. Does his team outscore its opponents? It’s a device called plus-minus that hockey has used for years, and it’s been around for a long time in basketball, too. The difference these days is that you don’t have to haul out all those play-by-play sheets and figure those points by hand.At its best, the Internet is a wonderful thing. A Web site, 82games.com, does all the math for you. It gives you a clear picture of whose presence on the floor means the most to a team.
And Patterson has been the guy. In fact, for a man averaging just 5.6 points through the first 14 games, he’s been a monster. It was on display, in fact, Tuesday night when his defensive intensity propelled Portland past Seattle. When Patterson has been on the floor, the Blazers have outscored their opponents by 40 points. That equates to 7.5 points per game if he played 48 minutes — which he’s quite obviously not going to do. And you have to consider that he’s sometimes playing against other team’s reserves..."
