Rick Brunson - Happy Nomad

"...Brunson, 32, a reserve point guard with the Los Angeles Clippers, has played for six teams, including two, the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls, twice. He also has played for the same coach, Mike Dunleavy, in two cities.

With all that movement, one thing has remained a constant in Brunson's career: the lack of a fully-guaranteed contract to start a season. That's why the best day of the year for Brunson is Jan. 10; on that date, NBA contracts become guaranteed for the rest of the season. That is true whether players stick with a team or are cut.

"When that day comes and he's still on a team, it's time to pop the champagne," said Leon Rose, Brunson's Cherry Hill-based agent.

Fans looking for information about Brunson in the Clippers media guide, don't bother. Considered a long shot to make the team this season, he isn't even listed there.

"That's about the third time I've been with a team where I'm not in the media guide," a smiling Brunson said before Friday night's 110-96 loss to the Knicks in Madison Square Garden...."

The collective bargaining agreement mandates that players with a minimum 8 year's in the league, will earn a minimum of $995.046.

"...Sometimes, guys don't realize how easy they've got it," Brunson said. "I try to enlighten them and tell them to enjoy this, because it might not be like this forever...."

Portland gave Rick his first shot at playing in the NBA. Rick has always been content with whatever playing time he gets. He appreciates being in the league. The NBA needs guys like this to counter balance those that think otherwise.
