Joel "Godzylla" Pryzbilla should continue starting for Portland.
I was happy to see Joel get the start last night. I think it was a smart move by coach Cheeks.
Theo has been spending more time complaining about the team than blocking and scoring as of late. Don't get me wrong, I like Theo. I really do. However his game has diminished greatly, and his attitude hasn't been the best. Last night Theo played 20 minutes. He got 0 points, 1 block, and 2 rebounds. Pryzbilla played 27 minutes and got 10 points, 1 block and 8 rebounds. You could see his confidence growing by the minute. This has been a emerging factor for Portland. Pryzbilla's numbers are improving and Theo's are not.
At Trailblazer games we have a thing called "Theo's block party". Whenever Theo gets a block, a basketball with a line through it is hung on a wall and a deal is shown up on the big screen noting it. It used to be this would go on for 5+ blocks on a regular basis. The crowd loved it. Many would actually bring rattles to the game and shake them as "The Rattler" sent someone's shot sailing into the stands. These moments have all but disappeared.
Until there is marked improvement in Theo's game, I say sit him down and let Joel have a chance.
Pryzbilla has been chided alot for his fouls. In fact, he has more career fouls than points scored! Pryz is one of those players that if he so much as blinks at the wrong time, they blow the whistle. An awful lot of his fouls are unwarranted in my opinion. They are given just because Joel is the "odd man out". This is a strange thing that seems to happen to less popular players.
It is foul trouble that has limited his playing time. I think it is good to get him out on the floor. It needs to happen now while he is having fairly productive minutes.
The more face time he gets with the refs, the less likely they will be to blow that darn whistle. I say let Theo come off the bench a while and find his game again. Let Pryz start and gain confidence. We need improvement in the middle as much as we do on the perimeter.
