The end of the black hole?
"...This has been a delicate subject for the Blazers for the greater part of the past two seasons as Randolph has emerged as the team's go-to player and unquestioned star. Nobody on the team doubts Randolph's talent or work ethic, but his motives and knowledge of the game have at times rankled the veteran players. Privately, they have said Randolph never will be on a winning team as long as he continues to focus more on his statistics than what is good for the team...
...The point is not to take away from Randolph's scoring opportunities. The Blazers' offense is designed for, and run through, Randolph, who is averaging 21.5 points and 10.8 rebounds. The point is to involve more players and create more flow by eliminating the black hole that develops when Randolph touches the ball..."
This is a very good thing! All I hear during games is "pass the ball Zach" or "oh no, the black hole". Fans are aware of this problem. Zach causes the Blazers to miss scoring opportunities when he tries to create a shot that simply isn't there. His determination to score blinds him to the fact that there are open guys waiting for the ball! I am glad that this topic is now open for discussion and more importantly, Zach is responding positively. I can't wait to watch the next game! This one small change could change everything for the Blazers.
"I'm trying," said Randolph, who is averaging 17.8 shots a game. "If this is what it takes for us to win, that's what I have to do. I need to get the guys involved early and look to pass more. It's something I can get better at." Source Link: OregonLive.com
