Blazers versus Seattle Supersonics: THE I-5 RIVALRY!
Today is one of the games that many Blazer and Sonic fans look forward to. It is war. Normally the Blazers have the edge, however, the Sonics are having a great season so far. In fact, they are currently number 1 in the league (13-2). The Blazers are struggling and sitting at one game over .500 (7-6). The Sonics have lost 4 straight at the Rose Garden but this meeting is coming at a time when the Sonics are sizzling and the Blazers are fizzling.
HOWEVER, this is why basketball is such a great game. Anybody can win at any time. The Blazers will be at home and are feeling confident after a good road trip and a win over New Jersey. The Sonics have won their last 4 and often lose their footing in Portland-regardless of records. The fact that more "pride" rides on these "rivalry" type games tends to bring out the competitor in all the players. I look for a feisty game with loud fans. I am going to give the edge to Portland since they are home and I think they will want this win more than Seattle. I think the Blazers will pull off the win and send the Sonics back to Seattle shaking their heads in disbelief. The Sonics and Blazers will be facing off again next Saturday. Tonight's results will certainly have it's affects on that game!
Game Preview
The Seattle Times is stirring the pot. Those Seattlites think they are so funny!
GO BLAZERS!
UPDATE:
A picture is worth a thousand words. More tomorrow. I am tired from YELLING! What a fantastic game!
The Blazers played a very well rounded game to night, holding Ray Allen to 21 points (with 10 coming from free throws). They brought out the beast in Danny Fortsen who ended up being ejected with 2 flagrant fouls. Shareef was fantastic on a night Zach just couldn't get it going, although he hit what could be considered the game winning shot in the 4th qtr. 25 from SAR. Darius picked up the pace adding 20 (using two hands at the rim I might add). Ruben Patterson did it again. His energy is a joy to watch. You really have to watch Ruben to appreciate his contributions. Way to fight back guys! The Blazers were down 13 to the 13-2 Sonics. They didn't give up and they got the win. Well deserved! By the way, OUR BENCH ROCKED LAST NIGHT!
*of note* Everytime the Blazers get a big win over a top team it goes without mention. A blurb here, a blurb there. I watched ESPN when I got home and their report was showing the Sonic shooting and then saying "by the way, the Blazers won". Phooey on that!
