Shareef Abdur Rahim injury update.

Reef's injury is sounding more and more like Scottie Pippen's knee to me. Scottie tried playing through it but ended up having surgery. His knee never really fully recovered and eventually the injury and age forced him to give up the game. I am very concerned that this is what is happening to Shareef. Although his elbow is not quite as serious as Pip's knee, it is the kind of nagging injury that can make playing basketball difficult. If there is a foreign body floating around in Reef's elbow, it will be a problem until it is removed. How well it recovers from there is a great big unknown.

"...Forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim did not play Wednesday after his right elbow flared up after Sunday's game in Phoenix. Abdur-Rahim, who missed six games at the end of December with the injury, was examined by a doctor in Los Angeles on Wednesday and given a diagnosis similar to the one he received in Portland: irritation caused by a floating body, but no structural damage.

Abdur-Rahim, who has had a magnetic resonance imaging and a CT scan performed on the elbow, is to be examined by a specialist today in Portland. Abdur-Rahim said he is concerned about the recurrence of the injury, but he doesn't know if the future might include surgery.
"We are going to get together (today) and talk about it," Abdur-Rahim said..."
