Worth the wait.
It has been a long time since I bothered to post anything. Life has been quite busy lately. I've done my best to keep at least one antenna up for Blazer news. For the most part it was a rather quiet summer for the Blazers. However, one would have had to be living under a rock to not hear the bombshell dropped on Rip City a few weeks ago.
Greg Oden out for season!
What???!!! Shock waves blasted through the airwaves, blogs and forums. I think the shock was so great that some were rendered speechless. It was also strange. Many fans just sort of shrugged and said, "Well, that sucks. Let's move on". Blazer fans are a tough bunch. We've collectively "been through it". Is there anything these days that can really knock the wind out of a Blazer fan? I don't think so.
I suspect the news is far more devastating for Greg than it is for anyone else. I don't need to go on about how the Blazers will lose $ and attention. My heart goes out to Greg. It's not his fault. These things happen, you can't predict it. Greg, you just sit back and take it all in this next year. You can have your coming out party next season. We will all be here waiting for you.
In the mean time, this is a great opportunity for the Blazers to fly under the radar. We know how good we are, "they" don't. Nobody expects anything from the Blazers now. "They" couldn't be more wrong. This Blazer team is filled with weapons. Without the focus on Greg, the rest of the team will mature quietly. I look at it as a bonus year. Next year, the team will be sharp, experienced and ready, ready for the addition of an athletic center, one that can run, jump, and block. We are going to have one sweet team next year. It will be worth the wait.
Get Well Greg Oden...and take your time to heal completely. Your time will indeed come.
GO BLAZERS!
