3 Blazers on "most likely to be traded list".

Today's Indy Star offers a listing of 14 players most likely to be be traded by the February trade deadline. Among them are 3 Portland Trailblazers. I guess it's no suprise that Darius Miles has made that list. The other two are Shareef Abdur Rahim and Damon Stoudamire. The list says that Damon has said he wants to be traded. This is not exactly true. Damon has said that if Portland can make him a deal that includes a potential office job in the future that he'd love to stay. I think Paul Allen would be crazy to say no.

As for Reef, I think it's the best kept secret in Portland that fans are disappointed in Zach and are regretting that Nash gave him such a large contract. It is becoming more clear everyday that Zach is not the guy you want to build around. He is a good player, but he isn't a cornerstone guy-yet. Reef is. One week ago, Darius Miles would not be on this list at all. Today is different. Darius Miles has become public enemy #1 in Portland, a town that is growing downright sick and tired of having to deal with Blazer problems. All we want to do is enjoy basketball! We want to support our team, desperately.

Having Darius as a potential trade option changes the equation. We could dump Miles and keep Reef and Damon. These are the solid, mature, guys we need to regain the respectable TEAM we once had. I know there are folks who would love to see Zach traded, not because of his game, but because of his attitude. Zach's attitude is frighteningly aligned with Miles. I have hope for him but I find myself doubting. We have about 4 weeks to go, it is going to get mighty interesting around here.

Here are the names that made the Indy Star list: P.J. Brown, Dale Davis, Eddie Jones, Toni Kukoc, Donyell Marshall, Darius Miles, Gary Payton, Paul Pierce, Shareef Abdur Rahim, Cliff Robinson, Glen Robinson, Jalen Rose, Damon Stoudamire, Antoine Walker.

Hey Darius Miles-Who's your daddy?

If you pay attention to the Blazers at all you know that the last few days have stirred up a lot of controversy. Darius's tirade against coach Cheeks has everybody talking. I have not known what to say because I like Darius. It is hard to believe he went this far. It's juvenile delinquent behavior and it is shocking to me coming from Darius. I don't think anybody really ever expected this. How could he even think for a moment it was a good thing to call his coach a "n*****"? I was stunned! When I read that Darius hollered at Cheeks, mocking him by saying "that's right, run to your daddy"as Cheeks headed to GM John Nash's office, I found myself becoming very angered. Just who does Darius think he is? How dare he address his coach in this manner? I don't care what Mo did, it does not matter. Mo is the coach.

Darius sounds like an idiot calling Nash Mo's "daddy." The same could be said about Paul Allen, wouldn't he be considered Darius's "daddy"? His 48 million dollar daddy? This attitude sickens me. Darius needs to publically apologize to coach Cheeks. Furthermore, is Darius so naive that he doesn't know that John Nash is also his "daddy"? Hello? Darius? This makes you and Mo brothers. The sooner you understand that, the better.

What a child. If this results in a Maurice Cheeks' resignation I don't know if I will be able to accept the Blazers organization. If they allow a punk player like Darius to call the shots, I don't want to support them. Mo is not the best coach but he doesn't deserve this. He deserves respect for putting up with what he has had to put up with since taking on Portland. I have to mention that I do not like seeing Darius in this light. I do like the guy. This is what makes this so difficult for me.

The Blazers have overcome so much. Darius Miles has single handedly taken us several steps backwards. It's not funny. Fans are angry. Some are angry with the coach, although I don't understand that. There is a distinct difference between being angry with Mo for losing and coaching issues than being angry with him for disciplining a player that absolutely deserves it. Come on people, do you really want a coach that allows his players to behave this way? If what Darius did is O.K. with you, then I question your ability to judge right and wrong.

What a mess. This is all I have to say about it right now. Here are some links to catch you up to what has happened.

Blazers vs Los Angeles Clippers

It has not been smooth sailing in Portland. The Blazers have lost 12 of their last 13 games. Darius Miles starts a 2 game suspension tonight. Derek is still battling with his teeth. Luckily, Zach is back but will likely come off the bench. In fact, it is seeming that Zach will continue to come off the bench-at least according to Jason Quick:

The Blazers only won one game in Zach's absence. How can he be hurting this team?
Quick's take:"I think the loudest statement right now is being made by coach Cheeks, and he said that Zach Randolph will not be in the starting lineup, and it doesn't matter if he's 100% or not."
Source:Oregonlive.com "Quick's Take"
*more tidbits here! check it out*

With guys coming in and out of the lineup as if there were a revolving door, it's no wonder that a rhythm hasn't been found. Tonight we will see Pryzbilla, Theo, Ruben, Nick and Damon once again. In fact, this may be the lineup that Cheeks uses the rest of the season. I LIKE IT!

The Clips have been on a bit of a tear. They haven't won in the Rose Garden in nearly 6 years. I don't put much stock into that but I do think the Blazers stand a good chance tonight. A guy to watch will be Rick Brunson. Ex Blazers seem to always come back to haunt us. I think our defense will be good. If the guys support Cheek's decision to suspend Darius Miles, then they will play an energy game. If they don't, we may have a problem. I have a feeling they support the coach on this one.

Defense will be key against Elton Brand who has 8 straight double doubles and Maggette who just seems to enjoy burning us. The Blazers have hopefully been practicing their free throws! I'm looking forward to a good game. I hate to say it but having Darius and DA out will ease the PT burden and that should provide a chance for Zach to find a rhythm with the new line up. I can't help but wonder how he will react to coming off the bench. Stay tuned.

Joel Pryzbilla-the "fan thrilla".

In spite of having a bad season, Blazer fans are going gaga over Joel Pryzbilla. When Shareef, Zach, Darius and even Theo went down with injuries, Pryz found himself in the starting lineup. Joel has been lighting it up ever since. He has been called everything from "dunk-zilla" to "Pryzident of the boards". Fans are having a blast trying to come up with a names for him. He started it when he told our local broadcaster, Mike Rice, that he wouldn't do an interview with him until he got a nickname. It has snowballed from there. It has been a much needed diversion to losing for everybody. Nobody knows what the chosen name will be. I hear that it isn't considered an "official" nickname until Brian Wheeler uses it on the air during game. I'm dying to hear what he chooses.

The Portland Tribune considers Joel a possible candidate for Most Improved Player. That would be back to backs for us since Zach Randolph won the award last year. I would have to agree. Godzylla (one of my favorite names) has come on like a monster. Everyone expects him to take over the starting center position from Theo Ratliff. I think this is a move that will benefit both players greatly as well as the team. When Coach Cheeks was asked about Joel this is what he said:
“Shoot, yeah, I’ve been surprised,” Cheeks admits, grinning. “Joel rebounds, he blocks shots, he clogs up the middle, he sets screens all over the floor. I love him. He does what he can do and doesn’t try to do anything he can’t do.” Przybilla has little offensive repertoire, but it hasn’t mattered. Against Dallas on Wednesday, all four of his baskets came on dunks. Nick Van Exel has become especially proficient at setting him up, and Przybilla has done a nice job moving without the ball to the open spot. “Earlier in the season, he was laying the ball up all the time and missing,” Cheeks says. “I had to tell him, every time you get around the basket, dunk.” Source:PortlandTribune.com

Joel has won the hearts of Blazer fans, soon he'll be known by all. I consider myself lucky to have gotten to meet him just a few days ago.

Darius Miles suspended for 2 games.

I fear the pressure of losing is beginning to show in Portland. I won't go into recent history but suffice it to say it has now culminated into a 2 game suspension for Darius Miles. I agree with this punishment completely and support our coach in his decision. In a nutshell, Darius needs an attitude adjustment and Cheeks just gave him time to think about it. Here is an article that will explain what led up to this. (source Oregonlive.com)

From Blazers.com:
The Portland Trail Blazers have suspended forward Darius Miles for two games for conduct detrimental to the team and insubordination. “I am disappointed that we’ve had this distraction to deal with today,” said Trail Blazers President Steve Patterson. “We expect a certain behavior from everyone in our organization, and what happened yesterday is not acceptable behavior. The organization is suspending Darius for two games effective today.”

UPDATE: Darius apologizes. Good move Darius, good move.:
I would like to apologize to all of our Trail Blazers fans for not being a part of the team these next two games and for not being able to help us win. Things were said in frustration and I am sorry for that. It is very important to me that our fans understand that I am committed to winning and that the losses we have had this season have been difficult for all of us. My entire focus when I return to the team will be on winning and helping us make a run for the playoffs. - Darius Miles

Signing Woods forces Wesley Person to the IL.

"...To make room for Woods, who got a prorated share of the NBA's veteran's minimum of $695,000, the Heat waived forward Jerome Beasley and placed Wesley Person on the injured list..."
Source:Sun-Sentinel.com

This is an odd twist since Wesley Person was traded by Portland to the Hawks in the Rasheed Wallace trade. The idea was that the Hawks would waive Wesley so the Blazers could get him back. It didn't happen. Wesley eventually landed in Miami where he never has seemed to fit in. Now Portland waives Woods, Miami signs him, and Wesley ends up on the IL.

If Portland still has ideas of getting Person back, now may be a good time to start looking into it.
"...Person has fallen out of the rotation and could be dealt if a taker is found for his $1.6 million salary..."

Blazers vs Dallas Mavericks

Dallas is coming to Portland after suffering one of their worst defeats this season at the hands of the Clippers. 97-87. Dirk got his 20+ but the rest of the team shot a measely 35%. It was their first loss after Avery Johnson took over as coach while Nellie recovers from surgery.

The Blazers made it to the summit of that proverbial "hump" and beat the San Antonio Spurs 99-107 Monday night. All Blazer fans are hoping for a repeat tonight. I'd say it is quite possible. The Blazers have always faired well against Dallas. I look for a head to head stand off between Damon Stoudamire and Jason Terry. Both playing better than they ever have. I don't thinkwe should put all our attention on Dirk though, after a humiliating loss to the Clips, the Mavs will be seeking a bit of redemption. Bad games are often followed by good games.

Both teams have had a day off. Dallas is on a 2 game road trip this being game #2. The Blazers need to do what they did Monday, MAKE FREE THROWS, VALUE THE POSSESSION and mind those TURNOVERS! If the Blazers can do that, they will be victorious. DA and Zach are listed as probable for tonight's game. If Zach plays, it will be limited minutes. Zach will be phased back into his starting spot. I think Theo will be moved to the bench.
Tonight however, I expect the same starting line up we saw Monday: Theo, Pryz, Ruben,NVE, and Damon.

I hope it all works out.

The Blazers should keep Damon Stoudamire.

I have read John Canzano's column several times this morning and I think he has taken up residence on Mars.

Damon Stoudamire has been beat up by local media over the years. Damon has beat himself up over the years. Damon has a rocky history here in Portland. Damon has a history of not being a consistently good player. Damon has a history of saying things have changed when they haven't.

The key word here is "history".

After Damon got busted in Arizona, something happened. The change he (and us) longed for finally came. Damon gave up the drugs. Damon settled his life and faced his demons. Anyone who has had to do this can testify to how very hard this is to do. Damon managed to make lasting changes to his lifestyle without leaving his team and friends. It's admirable. Damon's drug habits are history. I believe it. I believe it because I can see it in his demeanor. I can see it on the court. I also know that if Damon so much as thought about doing drugs again, the local media would rip him apart mercilessly. It has been silent. In fact, they have been kind and complimentary.

Damon has been criticized over the years for running a slow dribble dribble dribble dribble dribble half court offense. There were times when this was blamed on players like Rasheed not following a play, leaving Damon to try and decide what to do. This has been blamed on Damon himself, meaning Damon simply can't see what to do. To me it matters not what the reasons were because this too is history. Damon has been able to step back, take a look at his game, and just as he did in his life, make changes. I believe these changes are permanent too. Damon is seeing success like he never has before. He gave up his addiction to drugs and has replaced it with an addiction to sharpening his game. It's here to stay. In spite of his physical size, he has raised the level of his game to a plateau that taller players never see. I do not understand the obsession with Damon's height. It's a non factor.

As a Blazer fan I have been through the turmoil. I have been ridiculed by coworkers for being a "jail blazer" fan. I have been picked on by friends and family for being a glutton for punishment. I've been called stupid and accused of being in denial. This never phased me, in fact, it fueled my desire to support this team. Why? It's because I am a Blazer fan, period. There is this thing called sensationalism and the Blazers have had more than their share of it. In fact, they became victimized by it. But this story isn't about all of that. Yes, there have been very real problems in Blazer land, but now things are different. There has been change. You could actually say, the "jail blazers" are history.

This brings me to the situation at hand. Steve Patterson and John Nash developed the "25 Point Pledge". This pledge outlines behavioral expectations for the Blazers. Damon has not only met those expectations, he has exceeded them due to his having to make a choice to make his own changes. I can not say enough how much I admire Damon for this. In addition to this, Damon has brought his level of play up so far that he is a key factor in the Blazer's recent successes. Successes you ask? Yes, successes. I realize that the Blazers have been losing and are at this time out of the playoffs, just hold on and hear me out.

With 3 starters out, the Blazers have never given up. They have played hard. They have been praised for their "moral victories". They have given 110% effort. Finally they were rewarded with an outstanding win over the leagues best team, San Antonio. Throughout all of this Damon Stoudamire's numbers have risen to the point where I am quite sure they are visible from Mars. Here we have a guy, that in spite of "history", is giving his all and the results of this change are evident on the floor. He is now a "go to" guy. I believe Damon's game is permanently improved to a level where his value is evident. Yeah, but it's a contract year you say. So what? If Damon is good for another team, he is good for ours. The Blazers have been in need of a core group of guys. The core group of guys that have developed will see future success. It's important to make sure that Damon is one of them. He has been a leader. Damon has been everything, and more, than he was ever asked to be.

No Mr. Canzano, it is not time to trade Damon. It's time to give him that "sweet deal" he has earned through blood, sweat and tears. Any trades John Nash does needs to make this team better, not somebody else's. That is what will happen if he trades Damon. Not only that, he will send a loud and clear message to Blazer players and Blazer fans that regardless of what a guy does to meet expectations and to make the Blazers a better team, he is expendable. That is not a positive message at all. It renders the 25 point pledge mute. There are some things you do simply because they are "right". Damon has earned our respect and deserves to stay on this team as a secure member.

I say focus on the present and the future, not history, when it comes to making a decision about Damon Stoudamire. I know I'm on the ledge here. I don't care. In my opinion keeping Damon Stoudamire is the right thing to do.

Pistons showing some interest in Qyntel Woods.

It is being reported that the Pistons are at least thinking about offering Q a 10 day contract. This is quite interesting since it would reunite Q and Sheed. It strikes me funny that Q could end up on a championship team along with Portland's most infamous "bad boy".

From the Detnews.com: The Pistons, along with at least three other teams, have casual interest in small forward Qyntel Woods, recently released by Portland. The Pistons haven't yet made any official inquiry and would only be offering a 10-day contract.

Q&A with Scottie Pippen.

Jan. 19 -- One day after catching his resurgent Bulls at Madison Square Garden with former Knicks nemesis and current ESPN analyst Greg Anthony, NBA great Scottie Pippen was making the rounds yesterday at the NBA Entertainment studios in New Jersey. Pippen popped in on NBA TV's NBA Talk with Rick Kamla, and then took a few moments to speak with NBA.com about how retirement is treating him, what he thinks of the streaking Bulls team and whether or not he would want to coach in the NBA...
LINK&SOURCE:NBA.COM
I read that Scottie was considering becoming a sports analyst and had actually had some offers to do some work. It appears he may be testing the waters. I think Pip will coach one day. I'd love to see him back in Portland! There is no way a guy as competetive as him could stay behind a microphone for very long!
*you know the blog rules: once a Blazer always a Blazer!

Phil Jackson to Portland?

I know the day after a huge win like the Blazers got last night is not usually the time to be talking about a new coach. However, I couldn't let a blurb like this go by without at least noting it. It isn't news that there has been talk about a possible coaching vacancy in Portland. What gets my attention here is the knowledge that indeed, Phil loves the northwest. This is from yesterday's Blazer Blog and FoxSports.com:
"...More likely scenarios than PJ's return to New York (even the Chicago media is clamoring for a Jackson redux in the event Scott Skiles loses his players), is Jackson winding up in Portland or Denver should coaching vacancies occur there. He's already done the New York thing, and he yearns to live and work in the Northwest..."
This is a curious question. On one hand it has been said that Phil isn't that great of a coach, he was just blessed with great players. On the other hand, Phil is the "Zen Master". It's an intriguing thought to imagine Phil sitting on our side rather than with the Lakers! It is a rule as a Blazer fan to detest the Lakers and this would be the ultimate in cool to face off with them with PJ as our coach. LOL It makes me laugh. Yet, the dislike for the Lakers is so strong for Blazer fans that it takes time to wear off when a player/coach leaves LA. Worse yet, when one of our own ends up wearing the purple and gold, as in Brian Grant, it's downright painful!

I would be very surprised to see this happen. It just makes for some interesting scenerios. There's one thing it would do though. It would force Phil to prove his coaching ability. Portland does have a lot of talent, no doubt about that. What we don't have is the superstar. Not yet anyway. I can't help but wonder...would PJ be content to coach the "jackals"?

Blazers vs San Antonio Spurs

Tonight the Blazers face what will likely be their most challenging opponent since they were relegated to skeleton crew status 5 games ago. They have not won since. The loss of Zach Randolph in addition to Shareef has been devastating for Portland in the win column. Zach will not play tonight although he is expected back soon. Darius Miles is back but that doesn't help us much in the middle. Joel "Godzylla" Pryzbilla is doing a great job but he just doesn't have the presence it takes to stop a Tim Duncan. (Although that could change! I have faith in Pryz).Theo has been struggling and simply hasn't been that effective. I don't think anyone has any complaints about team effort, in fact, it is the effort that has fans calling the Blazers the "lovable losers", a name I am sure they would not like to see stick! I know they willl give their best once again. I pray that they are rewarded.

San Antonio beat us badly the last time they were here. That game was considered rock bottom for the Blazers. 114-80 was the final. One thing to keep in mind though is that this game came before Nick and Damon found their shot. We will need their shooting terribly tonight. We need big games from all Blazers to even have a chance. DA has got to snap out of his slump and playing SA may help do that. I'd like to see him get a few more minutes than he has been. Ruben will be busy as always. I can't say enough about Ruben, he's been fantastic! It sure would be nice to be able to buy a shirt with #21 on it! (there are none!)(not kidding).

Anyway, the Blazers will face some serious defense tonight. My hope is that they dish it right back at the Spurs. I have to go back to what I have said before. The great thing about basketball is that the underdog can win. It all comes down to who scores the most points! I have but one plea to the Blazers tonight: HIT YOUR FREE THROWS! VALUE THE POSSESSION & WATCH THOSE TURNOVERS!

UPDATE: About as close to perfection as any Blazer fan can ask for! This game shows why I love basketball so much! Anything can happen.

San Antonio has interest in Qyntel Woods.

It looks as if Q will find his way back into the NBA. Right after he was waived there were rumors that the Miami Heat were considering signing him. Today it seems that San Antonio is also taking a look at him. In fact, it appears that San Antonio showed interest last summer! This baffles me that Nash didn't make a move then. Q had already been in trouble and fallen out of grace of the 25 point pledge then. Why not do something about it when the opportunity was there? I'd love to know what SA would have done.

From today's mysanantonio.com:
"...The Spurs, according to a league source, have expressed interest in forward Qyntel Woods, who was released by Portland on Friday after pleading guilty to first-degree misdemeanor animal abuse.

The Spurs do not have the salary-cap room to claim Woods off waivers. Even if he does clear waivers and becomes a free agent, he might be more interested in joining a team that could offer more playing time. The Spurs, who initially inquired about Woods last summer, would have to make a trade or waive a player to clear a roster spot for him..."
I hope Qyntel wises up and takes advantage of these situations. He is a great talent, but up til now he has been quite the knucklehead.

"New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations Isiah Thomas announced today the resignation of Head Coach Lenny Wilkins...

Wilkens, the winningest coach in NBA history finished his Knicks career with a 40-41 mark since his hiring on Jan. 15, 2004 last season. After taking over a team with a 16-24 record during 2003-04, the 67-year-old Brooklyn, NY-native guided the Knicks to a third-place finish in the Atlantic Division and its first playoff berth in three years. Wilkens, a Naismith Hall-of-Fame inductee as both a player and coach, has an all-time coaching record of 1,332-1,1155 (.536)..."
Source: NBA.com

Herb Williams will be taking over.

It was said on ESPN last night during the Spurs/Suns game that in addition to the Knicks not doing well that Lenny has been having family issues. I wish him the best and if he wants to coach again he would be welcomed back in Portland!

Blazers vs Timberwolves

Tonight the Blazers take on the T-Wolves for the second time in less than 2 weeks. The Blazers have been reduced to a skeleton crew without starters Zach Randolph, Darius Miles, and Shareef Abdur Rahim. They have stayed competetive but haven't been able to achieve victory, always falling just short. The T-Wolves have been struggling as well, but their issues seem to be more internal. However, they are beginning to gain their footing. The Wolves are coming to Portland after defeating the Sonics last night. Wally got 32 points and shot 9-12 from 3 point range. The Wolf bench got 72 points! Spreewell is battling the flu and Sam Cassell is hurt.

Tonight Zach is questionable. I thought Darius was too but the injury report shows him on the injured list. This is news to me. Theo is also listed as questionable. He is battling the flu. I guess the strength of our team tonight will be determined at game time. We will need Damon and Nick to do their thing tonight. Ruben will likely be keeping Wally in check. Remember, he recently held Peja to 4. I know the Blazers will snap out of this eventually. Hopefully we will see Zach return and finally get the edge we have needed to get one of these games over the top. The Blazers are rested, the Wolves are on the 2nd night of a back to back. I hope they are good and tired!

I want to make a special note about tonight's party that is being hosted by Basketballboards.net (BBB). Many of the posters from the BBB will be getting together tonight. My husband, mom and I are going to pop in and say hello at the pregame meeting over at Cucina Cucina. I think this is the 3rd year they have done this. Jason Quick will be among their guests. If you are around prior to the game, feel free to come over to Cucina Cucina and say hello. I don't think the group will be hard to find!
Game Preview Injury Updates

UPDATE: Well....you know. Decent effort, another loss. It was good to see Darius back. We still are awfully vulnerable inside. Until Zach and SAR are back, we will continue to be. The Wolves are looking like they are turning their season around. I had a great time meeting up with the folks at the BBB party. I am sure pictures will be posted. Go to the BBB site and you will be able to see them. I do have a gripe and I am going to make a new post about it. Great effort does not justify the level of missed free throws and turnovers the Blazers are getting. These two things alone could have made the difference in many of our recent "almost over the hump" games. I don't see where being shorthanded or the coach can be blamed for this.

Good news for Blazer fans!

I have 2 very good reports to give today regarding the Blazers. The first is basically telling you what you already know. Damon Stoudamire and Nick Van Exel have been shooting like stars the last several games and show no signs of letting up. Each of them have improved siginicantly. Kerry Eggers of the Portland Tribune says:

"...The numbers are eye-popping: Van Exel — .496 shooting, .523 on 3-pointers, 22.4 points per game, 6.0 assists; Stoudamire — .476, .456, 26.1 and 5.4. That’s a combined 48.5 points, 11.4 assists and 9.3 3-pointers per game from the southpaw duo. It’s been bombs away, and it’s been a sight to behold..."

The second report is that Darius and Zach are close to returning and might even play tomorrow night against Minnesota! Reef has been told he may return as early as late February. This is great news and I am sure the Blazer's current skeleton crew is more than happy to hear it.

This good news does bring up a question. How will Zach and Darius's return affect current team chemistry? How will it affect the game? Personally I think the guys have had to play without them long enough that the improvements made to their games during this time will remain permanent. I think Ruben will be receptive to returning to the bench. You know Ruben is going to be great regardless of if he starts or not. I do wish that Cheeks would continue starting Pryzbilla instead of Theo. What I am anxious to see is a starting line up of Godzylla, Zach, Darius, Damon and Nick. Please Mo, TRY IT!

Cheek's comments in the Tribune are thrilling in that we may finally see the Blazers have both an inside and an outside game. I can't wait to see it! If the guys turn it on both ways, they will be very hard to beat.

"With Randolph and Miles due back perhaps as early as Saturday, it begs the questions: Can Van Exel and Stoudamire continue with the hot hands? Can they mesh with the Blazers’ inside threats? Will Cheeks still give them the green light? “(Van Exel and Stoudamire) will still shoot the ball,” the coach promises. “We’d like to have a post-up game. It’s important. There are times when those (perimeter) shots are not going to fall, but we’re not going to go post, post, post. We’ll incorporate some post-up plays with our outside shooting...” Source:Portland Tribune

Qyntel Woods heads to court tomorrow. *new update*

Portland Trailblazers president Steve Patterson released a statement today regarding Qyntel Woods who has been suspended since the season even started for his alleged involvement in illegal dog fighting.
(Q's player page had to be linked to NBA.com since he has been erased from the Blazer website!).

"We have been notified by the Clackamas County authorities that Qyntel Woods is scheduled to appear in Circuit Court tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. regarding his ongoing criminal investigation. This process has been long and frustrating for everyone involved and we are hopeful for a resolution tomorrow."
Source:Blazers.com

This is something Blazer fans have been wondering about. It will be interesting to see if Q is formally charged or if he is cleared. Many have questioned Qyntel's suspension due to the fact that he has never been formally charged. You can read up on the situation by following this link. If Q is charged tomorrow then his time as a Blazer is certainly over. If he is cleared do not be suprised to hear an uproar from Blazer fans who want him suited up and on the floor.

UPDATE: From KATU news. PORTLAND, Ore. - KATU has learned that suspended Portland Trail Blazers forward Qyntel Woods is scheduled to accept a plea deal in court on Friday following an investigation into animal abuse.

1/21 UPDATE: Qyntel Woods has been waived by the Blazers.

Blazers give James Thomas another try.

It's old news to some but if you missed it:
The Portland Trail Blazers have signed rookie forward James Thomas to a second 10-day contract. He was originally signed to a 10-day contract on January 9th. Thomas has appeared in six games for the Trail Blazers this season, averaging 2.7ppg and 2.8rpg in 13.0 minutes per contest. Source:Blazers.com

Thomas got 15 rebounds last night in the game with Cleveland. 6 points, 2 blocks, 1 assist and 4 turnovers. He played 28 minutes.

Hardwood Classics: Blazers vs Cleveland Cavaliers.

Tonight is Hardwood Classic Night for the Trailblazers. They will be wearing retro uniforms. If circumstances were better I'd go on about how fun tonight will be. I don't think the guys care much about classic night at this point. All they want is to WIN A GAME! The Blazers don't want to hear about what a great effort they put out. They don't want to hear about how well they have done in spite of being without 3 starters. The guys just want to win. They need to win. They must. Team morale is going to wane and soon be eclipsed without a win. As much as the guys don't want to hear it I feel compelled to praise them for the effort they have given. It's only "right" that it pays off eventually, isn't it? It will. It must. Meanwhile, the Blazers learned that Darius Miles will miss tonight's game after all. Last night it was thought he'd be able to play. He practiced with the team but ended up with fluid needing to be drained today. It is unknown when Zach will return and it is thought that SAR simply won't.

This is game 4 of a 6 game road trip for Cleveland. They have lost to LA, beat Utah and lost to Seattle. The Cavs are only ticks away from taking the number 1 spot away from Detroit in the Central Division. I can't mention Cleveland without mentioning LeBron James. King James will be here donning is royal mask. Word is that LeBron filmed a new Nike commercial at the Portland Nike complex on his day off. I'm not concerned about LeBron. I am concerned about Jeff McInnis. When the Blazers last played the Cavs, Jeff had a great game and decided to taunt the Blazers. It didn't go over well and I am betting that there are plans for a bit of revenge tonight. The way Damon and NVE have been playing make this an interesting scenario. Will we see another shoot out like we did in New Orleans? I sure hope so. Jeff ticked me off when he did that. I know he ticked off the Blazers. I hope they can refrain from T's while taking care of business!

Joel Pryzbilla is coming off the best game of his career. Pryz snagged 22 rebounds last night, quickly earning the respect of fans and various nicknames such as "Godzylla" and "NillaBilla". Trust me Joel, those are terms of endearment. Joel's confidence got a huge boost last night and I expect it to continue. It also will build more trust from his teammates. It's called teambuilding. Step by step the Blazer team has been improving. They really are finding good from adversity. Once Darius and Zach return this could very well be a really good team. I'm looking forward to it.

When the Blazers step onto the floor tonight I hope they get a standing ovation. They have literally given their all. You can bet they will do it again for the home crowd. I want to see them get this win about as much as I wanted them to beat LA during the playoffs. I am going to support this team and scream my head off to try and help them get the win. I think everyone else will too.
Game Preview

UPDATE: My apologies for the slow post game response. Between getting home VERY late last night after the game and having serious blog troubles this morning I'm amazed I have gotten this far!
Anyway, last night's game, as you know, was the same story. Play hard, get close, and lose. Again the Blazers were severely shorthanded. In addition to SAR, Zach, and Darius, we lost Theo in the first minute due to him having a stomach virus. I guess it's the flu. I hope he keeps it to himself and doesn't give it to the team! The guys gave it a good try, as always, but fell short. I have to wonder how the game would have turned out without the 20 turnovers and the 14 missed free throws. This is not really a thing you can blame on being shorthanded. Anyway, it was clear the guys were very tired. It has been a gruelling 2 weeks. I am glad they get a couple days off to prepare for Minnesota. Minnesota is a team that is struggling, they lost a close one to LA last night. Saturday's game looks to be another tough one. I have no word on whetherr or not Darius might be back for this one. In spite of it all, the guys are still optimistic and that is good. They should be. By the way, LeBron became the youngest player to ever get a triple double last night. As you can tell, I'm not all that excited about that.

Serious Blazer Fans

When my husband and I got married we decided to have a little fun with the pictures. Since things aren't going so well for the Blazers I decided to submit ours to Blazers.com's "where in the world" to help with participation. We all had a good laugh when this picture was taken. I'll tell you something else. The pastor actually made reference to the Blazers during our ceremony! He sure did. He told me in front of everyone that I should have the same enthusiasm for my husband and marriage as I do the Blazers. To this day I find myself thinking about that. It's a tall order! *kidding* A lesson comes to mind. Just as a marriage has it's ups and downs, so does a basketball season. It sure doesn't mean that the love isn't there! Mike, I love you, and GO BLAZERS!

Steve Nash, the chemist, the leader.

When it comes to building team chemistry, Steve Nash knows how to get it done. Steve is a very good example of how to lead by example.
"The Suns might have realized they had acquired a special player when Bryan Colangelo, the Suns' general manager, walked into the gym at 7 a.m. and saw Nash working out a month before he reported to camp. "Steve really set the tone," Colangelo said.
By the time the Suns' other free agent, Quentin Richardson, came to town a week later, the whole team was assembled. "I was like, 'Wow,' " Richardson said. "We had a chance to get our chemistry together quickly."

Small things matter, and it seems that Steve understands this.
"One of the ways Nash helped to build that chemistry was by renting out a Phoenix theater so his teammates could watch a movie without being bothered."
I'd call this a brilliant move. I am sure it isn't the easiest thing for NBA players to just go to a movie. No, this isn't Blazer related. I just thought it was a neat bit of insight.

Blazers versus Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings are 15-19 at home. The Blazers are 7-15 on the road. The Blazers are without 3 starters (Randolph, Miles, Rahim). The Kings now have Mobley. There is no obvious reason to say that the Blazers will win this game tonight. However, the guys have continued to play hard and stay in games. That has been amazing in and of itself. A win against all odds is one of the great moments that basketball can offer. If the Blazers manage to snag some rebounds, make their free throws, and score like they did in New Orleans, they could have a chance. The Kings do their thing away from the basket for the most part so perimeter defense is key. Please keep an eye on Peja for that little backdoor sneak he likes to pull! Ruben-you can do that.

Mercifully this is the last game of a 6 game road trip that has pretty much covered the globe. The guys had a chance to go home before heading to Sac so maybe that will help them be more rested. Scratch that: They just reported that the Blazers ended up going straight from Minnesota to Sac. Well, they still had time off, maybe it is good that they didn't go home. If they were on a wining streak I wouldn't want them to go home!
Game Preview

UPDATE: Just heard they are going to change the line up again. James Thomas will not start and Cheeks will start Theo and Pryzbilla (Godzilla) together. Cheeks is going big. I think it may be a good idea. Adelman only has Miller and Ostertag...He won't counter punch with them together.

UPDATE: WOW. I thought they were going to get it done. All I can say is that this doesn't speak well for the Kings. They struggled against the Blazer's skeleton crew. That really isn't saying much. But hey, they got the win, we didn't. The Blazers are coming home. A great effort.

The big story of the night is the emergence of a new monster, GODZYLLA has been born! 22 REBOUNDS! Great game Pryz! Keep up the great work!

Club 54+ and how Damon got there.

Damon Stoudamire joined an elite club when he scored 54 points against the Hornets. Only 43 players have ever scored 54 or more in a single game. Here is the list:
Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Glen Rice, Elgin Baylor, Allen Iverson, Pete Maravich, Karl Malone, Adrian Dantley, David Robinson, George Gervin, Jack Twyman, Oscar Robertson, Nate Archibald, Tom Chambers, Jermaine O’Neal, Tracy McGrady, Fred Brown, Dominique Wilkins, Bob Pettitt, Lou Hudson, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Bernard King, Richie Guerin, Chet Walker, David Thompson, Alex English, Jerry Stackhouse, Kelly Tripucka, Dave Bing, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Rick Barry, Joe Fulks, Purvis Short, Elvin Hayes, Reggie Miller, Jerry West, Shaquille O’Neal, George Mikan, Kobe Bryant, Murphy, Adams and Stoudamire.
Damon says a change to his pregame warmup has helped him raise the level of his game. Damon says he used to wear himself out preparing and by game time was already tired. Damon told the Portland Tribune:
“I have been a notoriously slow starter throughout my career,” he says. “I wasn’t going to shoot like that all year. The other part of it is, I was fatigued at the beginning of the season. I put in a lot of work during the summer, and in training camp and through the preseason, we didn’t have a lot of guards, I was getting heavy work in practice, and I was tired.“Right about the time Cheeks took me out of the starting lineup (on Dec. 17), I figured something out. I continued to work hard in practice, but before games, I cut back. Now, I go out and take 20 or 30 shots, get comfortable, shoot some rhythm free throws and save my legs for the game. That, along with going into a game with a more aggressive mentality, has made the difference for me.”
The Trib goes on to say this about Damon's resurgence:
Stoudamire’s resurgence over the last month is startling. Through his first 21 games this season, Mighty Mouse was mighty quiet, shooting .319 from the field, .272 from 3-point range and averaging 10.2 points. Coach Maurice Cheeks even removed him from the starting lineup. But in the 15 games since then, he is .495 from the field and .492 on 3-pointers and averaging 17 points. Stoudamire, a career .408 shooter (.355 from 3-point range), has scored in double figures in 11 of the games despite averaging fewer than 24 minutes. Over the last four games, he is averaging 29.3 points.
Source: Portland Tribune

This is a contract year for Damon. Maybe he is trying to look attractive to other teams. He must know that it is a very real possibility that he will not be re-signed. I am hoping he is. I admire Damon's toughness. Yes, I said toughness. He has weathered A LOT as a Blazer and as a person. He has come through it a better person and now a better player. Damon is worth keeping.

Cliff Robinson and Dale Davis to New Jersey?

Golden State is willing to give up Cliff Robinson to the Nets, but only if they will take "Double D" too. Earlier this week it was reported that DD had been sent home by GS so he could "get his head straight". Dale had apparantly gone to management complaining about playing time. It was also reported that when asked to go into a game for "garbage time", Dale refused.

Here's the offer:
(Golden State Warriors) are now amenable to giving up Clifford Robinson for the Nets' $5.2 million trade exception -- as long as the Nets are also willing to give up their $10 million exception to take Dale Davis.
Source: nj.com

Dale has always been a moody guy. Now it seems GS is doing what they can to rid themselves of him. Do you think I am going to make a bid to bring Dale back to Portland? No. I like Dale. I even got to meet him once. For the most part he served Portland well. I just don't think Dale would fit here anymore. Besides, he wants to go back to Indy. My interest in all of this is Cliff Robinson. It think he would be a BIG help to Portland. I have been corrected in that we can not make a multiple player trade with New Orleans for Jimmy Jackson since he has recently been traded AND because of that he can not be traded until 2/27, which is 3 days past the Feb. 24th deadline. I thought the deadline was later.

So, let's get Cliff Robinson!
I don't want to lose Damon but we could trade him for Cliff, Derek Fisher and Mike Dunlevey. Good? Bad? Trade ID#2177107 (you have to plug in the number in the trade ID window)

Who's to blame?

When things get as bad as they are here in Portland, there is enough blame to go around. Here are some tidbits from recent days.

Chad Ford: The Blazers are as big of a mess as they've ever been, and some of the blame is beginning to fall on GM John Nash's shoulders. The Blazers have an option on the third year of his contract, and there's a growing possibility that the Blazers won't exercise it. (source ESPN Insider via Blazer Blog)

John Nash: (from an interview with the Portland Tribune)
Trib: What kind of a job has Maurice Cheeks, who’s in the final year of his contract, done with the Blazers this year?
Nash: I don’t want to offer any kind of evaluation. It’s too sensitive of an issue. No matter what I say, people can turn, twist and whatnot. Bottom line is, we are in this business to win. If you don’t win, you have to examine the circumstances and determine what caused you to not be successful.

Steve Duin of the Oregonian blames, SAM BOWIE?

The Players & Coach: Skim through Jason Quick's blog and see what they say.
Damon: “You can’t talk your way out of it with this team, because we are spending so much time teaching the young guys,” Stoudamire said. “But this losing stuff ... it’s for the birds. It’s hard.”
DA: “We’ve got it back,” said Anderson, who had four points in 13 minutes. “That’s the important thing. We’ve got it back.” (always the optimist)
NVE: "When we play basketball as a team, were pretty good. But when we worry about all the individual stuff, like bickering at one another on the court, its going to kill your team."
Theo: “It’s the same situation every night,” center Theo Ratliff said. “We go out there and play the same way, and it doesn’t get addressed. We talk about it and still go out and do the same thing. The same thing.”
Ruben: “I’m not pointing fingers at our guards, but they know they have to step it up,”
Cheeks & Nash: “You know what, we keep always trying to put Sebastian, Damon, Travis and Ruben out on the floor to save us after we get down,” Cheeks said. “But it’s always too much to overcome. And I don’t know if those guys are good enough to start and play 35 minutes, but it’s getting to the point where I have to think about it.” When pressed about how serious he is about implementing those changes for tonight’s game at Philadelphia, Cheeks became testy, saying, “Ask him about it ... ask him about it,” referring to general manager John Nash, who was walking past the locker room. Later, Nash said Cheeks approached him after Sunday’s game about making lineup changes. “I said he needs to do what’s necessary, and that he’s not going to get any objection from management,” Nash said. “But I didn’t suggest it, nor did I get the suggestion from him, of starting the whole second unit.”

Well, there you have it. So are the days of the Portland Trailblazers. I think things will look much brighter when Darius and Zach are back, hopefully Reef too.

Rolls Royce Phantom: An NBA "must have".

It seems that the Rolls Royce Phantom is quickly becoming the choice ride for several NBA players, including a few of your own. Derek Anderson, Ruben Patterson, Darius Miles, and even Rasheed Wallace (hey, once a Blazer, always a Blazer on this blog!), have all dropped the 350 thousand bling blings for the luxary of driving one of these incredible cars. Pssst. Does Paul Allen have a girlfriend?

"He (Paul Allen) describes his investments since then as a mix of luck and curiosity; they are also a mix of for-profit and charitable. And some are just for himself, his family and friends...

But while Allen might entertain celebrities on his yachts and is occasionally seen at film festivals and other events where his projects are being showcased, he tends to shun media attention and the spotlight - especially when it comes to his personal life. Though published reports have linked him to actress Laura Harring, who co-starred in "Mulholland Drive," his representatives won't comment.

Blazer fans know all about PA's eccentricities. What we want to know is who is this Laura Harring? We all see Paul sitting down by the basket with Steve Patterson. Quite often he has his mother with him. There has been the occassional "mystery woman". I'm quite sure I haven't seen Laura Harring. Come on Paul, spill the beans! If I see her, I'll let you all know! ;)

Blazers stuck in Minnesota due to Portland ice storm.

KATU TV is reporting this morning that the Blazers flight out of Minnesota was cancelled last night. They are not saying if they were ever able to leave. PDX still has several cancelled flights as of this morning. The ice is thawing in areas but still causing problems in others.

Man, what a drag for the guys. I am sure they are more than ready to come home.

Geoff Petrie happy to pass the torch...or is he?

"It was time for the torch to be passed," Petrie, the Sacramento Kings' president of basketball operations, said the morning after Damon Stoudamire scored 54 points for the Blazers to break Petrie's record of 51, set in 1973..."

Now here's the funny part:
"Kings coach Rick Adelman, who originally teamed with Petrie in Portland's backcourt, then coached the Blazers when Petrie worked in the team's front office, joked that he remembered what happened when Clyde Drexler threatened Petrie's record.
"Clyde had 50 about three times, and Geoff had me take him out of the game," Adelman said.

Blazers vs Minnesota Timberwolves

I'm late with this one but will say that I think this is going to be a hard game for both teams. Both teams are wounded. Both teams are struggling. Both teams are on the 2nd night of a back to back. The Blazers have been playing better though. At least I think so. I think the Blazers are building up to a break through. The T-Wolves will be minus Olawakandi, but I don't think that will hurt them much. Portland will be without Zach again. I'd be curious to see how the 3 game goes tonight. It's been a "3-for-all" lately with Portland. The guys can do this.
Game Preview

I am not going to complain...much. Mo! What are you thinking? Why only play DA 15 minutes? OK, I'm over it. Ruben's back. Damon evened out. Nick too. I just can't complain. I am glad to see the Blazers staying in games. If I were Minnesota I'd be concerned that a team like Portland was giving me fits, without 3 of their key guys. Same for the Wiz and for New Orleans. Hang in their Blazers. Zach and Miles will be back soon.

I'm wondering if Thomas will get another 10 day contract or if he will be let go. He isn't terrible but I am thinking there may be a better option out there. hard to say I guess.

Illinois breaks their own record! 18-0

Today I am tooting the Illini horn LOUDLY! With today's win over Northwestern, the Fighting Illini have broken a school record for longest winning streak. Today they got #18.

An then there were four. It isn't the final four just yet but there are only 4 teams left boasting undefeated records. Kansas (13-0), Boston College (13-0), and Duke (12-0) are cruising along with Illinois but the Illini are a few steps ahead of them since they have played more games.

The Illini season is looking very good indeed!

Blazers vs New Orleans Hornets.

Looking at records I would say this is a game I'd expect Portland to win. However, with Baron Davis back and playing well, the Blazers without Shareef, Darius and probably Zach Randolph, this is going to be a hard win for Portland. So what else is new?

The Blazers have actually seen improvement the last few games they have played without key guys. The second unit guys are really stepping up to the challenge. A hard fought game lost in Washington will fuel a big desire to win tonight. The guys proved to themselves they are capable of playing well. I don't think they are going to let a stolen inbound pass carry over to this game. So, instead of expecting a win, I'll say a win is probable. That isn't the same thing is it?
Game Preview

UPDATE: Hours later, I am still speechless. Damon breaks Geoff Petrie's record by scoring 54 points. He tied NVE's new record of 8, 3 pointers in a game. Still, the Blazers lost. It's incredible. Other records fell as well. It was a wild game. I still can't believe we lost. 11 assists for NVE. All we needed was some rebounding and free throws. Man oh man...there's more bad news too. Darius Miles and Zach will both miss the next few games. BOX SCORE

GO BLAZERS!

Dwight Jaynes makes good point regarding Qyntel Woods and Kobe Bryant.

Dwight Jaynes of the Portland Tribune makes a very good point regarding the situation regarding Qyntel Wood's suspension. Kobe Bryant was CHARGED with a crime and continued to play an entire season. Q has only been SUSPECTED, and he has been banished, forced out of the NBA altogether. Suspended indefinitely.

I think the more questions that are raised about this situation the more Nash and Patterson are going to be forced to answer.

KJM's Random Blazer thoughts.

The Portland Trailblazers are in a really awkward place right now. I have so many things running though my mind I decided to just list them out. Every time I try to write about one thing it blends into the other. So here goes.

1. Shareef Abdur Rahim may be out for the rest of the season. We missed an opportunity to trade him for Vince Carter. Now he is potentially untradable. This makes for 3 possibilities, trade him at lesser value, let him walk, or cross your fingers in hopes that he will re-sign. The way it has been around here this would surprise me.

2. Zach Randolph did not let his knee heal properly and continued to play on it when he shouldn't have. Now it is aggravated and he is questionable for tonight against New Orleans. No big deal? I think it could be. Zach is a bull in a china store. He wants to play-period. He probably has been hurting but didn't admit it. Now his knee has been worn down. I won't be surprised to see Zach on again off again with his knee. He needs to just bite the bullet and stop playing until it is healed. Otherwise, he may be out right when he wants to be in the All Star game or worse, the home stretch. I hope the trainers are not just taking Zach at his word about the knee. He strikes me as the kind that will fib so he can play. If you are hurt Z, sit down!

3. Zach again, sort of. This business with Qyntel Woods has got me wondering. It is common knowledge that Z-Bo and Q are buddies. I can't help but wonder that Q is being made out to be the fall guy. Q gets suspended and the entire ordeal gets swept under the rug. The local news who was all over this story earlier, has literally gone silent. They were out to get Q too, it seemed. Local media here in Portland gets downright giddy when there is negative Blazer news to report. The thing is, with the history between Q and Zach, how is it even possible that Q managed to "possibly be involved in dog fighting" and Zach wasn't? Did Patterson and Nash make Q disappear to not only save the Blazer's "PR" behind, but to protect Zach Randolph, their $80 man? I have a bad feeling this thing is far from over. What will the Blazers do if Zach ends up implicated in the dog fighting? Why else would it take 5+ months to investigate? I am highly suspicious. Of course, it would be expected that if there was so much as a sliver of evidence that Zach was involved, the local media would be screaming it from the mountain tops.

4. Damon deserves to start the rest of this season. 'Nuff said. I can't say enough about Damon. I am constantly impressed with the way he has handled his life and this Blazer season. His game is decent and he went to the bench as a professional. I like Damon as a Blazer and my hope is that it stays that way. If Damon is re-signed, then it will be time to think about the bench. It happens to most veterans anyway.

5. Maurice Cheeks. Mo has had it pretty rough here in Portland. I don't think many would dispute that. However, the only thing rough about the Blazers now is that they seem to be without a plan. That is the coach's responsibility. I think Mo is burned out. I don't blame him. I thank him for holding things together but I am really thinking it is time for him to move on. If he can get back to Philly, he should go for it. We need a fresh direction and that demands a new coach.

6. Theo's block party? Where did it go? I agree with Theo's benching. He just hasn't been himself. I think Travis has more blocks than Theo in the last several games. Atlanta fans tell Blazer fans that this is how it was when Theo played there. They say Theo was injury prone. Well, they may be right. Theo has been here almost a year now, and he has been out due to a thigh injury and a shoulder problem. He spends a lot of time on the bench too due to foul trouble. Do you suppose if he wasn't aching that he'd be quicker and less prone to foul? Theo's blocks are not enough to require a party. I hope this turns around but I think Theo had best stop complaining about his teammates and concentrate on his own game.

7. Blaze the Trail Cat. What would Blazer games be without him? >^..^< I like that crazy cat!
*seeing if you made it this far!*

8. In spite of it all, I think the Blazers still have at least a shot at the playoffs! I really do. The new line up has brought a spark to the team. I'm not ready to say they won't make it at all. It is going to be interesting when Darius comes back. Who knows if SAR will come back at all. I don't think we should count on it.

9. Ruben Patterson is the Blazer's GO TO guy. Period. If he goes back to the bench, put him on the list for 6th man of the year!

10. Go BLAZERS! :)

Mr. Nash, Don't miss the boat on this one!

The Nets are offering New Orleans a 5 million dollar trade exception for Jimmy Jackson. I continue to think that Blazer GM John Nash needs to get on the phone and snap JJ up before it's too late!

Fishing for feedback.

This blog has been going since October. It has been fun. It can be tedious and difficult at times to say the least! Not many comment on anything so I am wondering what I could do differently that might encourage participation?

One thing I am looking at is linking to a forum where folks can post their own topics. This will be up soon. I have added a live chat feature so if anyone wants to they can go have a live conversation.

I'm not one to shy from voicing my opinions so blogging has been fun in that respect. I just wish others would voice theirs too! (other than the soon to be infamous BP).
I am a big Blazer (and basketball) fan so the topic remains interesting. I'm just fishing for feedback and ideas. I'd love to hear from anyone, especially from Blazer fans. I know there are still a few left!

If you will, please tell me what you think. I see the ticker at the bottom...somebody is looking. I'd love to hear from you!
Thanks,
KJM

Will Nash let yet another opportunity get away?

I'm going to say it again. Getting Jimmy Jackson is a very good idea for Portland. It seems the Nets think it's a good idea for them. We need help and JJ can help us.

"The Nets and Hornets have begun discussions about a possible trade for disgruntled New Orleans' forward Jim Jackson. Nets' president Rod Thorn contacted the Hornets on Tuesday, when the team learned that guard/forward Richard Jefferson would need wrist surgery and miss the rest of the season. "Jimmy can definitely help, because he's a very versatile player," guard Jason Kidd told the Newark Star-Ledger..." Source: YahooSports.com

Here are trades that will work: LINK

The Nets are also looking to get Cliff Robinson. The Blazers shouldn't just sit idle and let good available players go to ther teams without at least giving the options a good look. I hope Nash is paying attention.

Hello! This is Darius Miles, may I help you?

I wish I had called the Blazer offices these past couple of days! While on the injured list it seems that Darius has been put to work answering phones and fan mail for the Blazer offices. I think it's a pretty slick move.

Word is that Darius may be back for the Sacramento game on the 18th. I sure hope so, we are really running a skeleton crew these days!

"Trail Blazers Forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim underwent surgery on his right elbow today to remove loose bodies.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles and was considered a success. Abdur-Rahim is expected to be out indefinitely..."

GET WELL SOON REEF! WE MISS YOU!

The empty locker. (UPDATED)

The Portland Trailblazers have been missing a player all season long. Qyntel Woods. He was our up and coming star, so some thought. He was mentored by Scottie Pippen early on and had very high expectations placed on him. Q struggled on the court trying to meet these expectations. Last year he was forced to play point, a move that some think crushed his fragile confidence.

Q struggled off the court as well. He was ridiculed for using his rookie card as an ID after being pulled over for a driving infraction and he didn't have his driver's license with him. He was busted for marijuana and he was often in the wrong place at the wrong time. All of this did not keep him from playing. However, when Q was targeted as being involved in the dog fighting business, he lost everything. The accusations caused Patterson and Nash to suspend Qyntel indefinately. A move not supported by some of the players or fans. You see, Q has not been charged with anything. I personally think there was a knee jerk reaction to protect our new squeaky clean image. Without a formal charge it is beyond me how this suspension is holding.

Blazer teammates Derek Anderson and Ruben Patterson, among others, have been vocal that they do not think the suspension is warranted. I can't help but wonder if this is at least one factor in why the team got off to such a bad start. It is a team distraction. Fans don't pass by that empty locker as a reminder, but the team does.

According to an article in Hoopshype, the suspension is being appealed by the NBA player's association. Thing is, what good can that really do now? Qyntel has missed nearly half of the season already! I HATE the idea of dog fighting, but I also hate injustice. If Qyntel Woods has not been charged with a crime, then the crime is suspending him just to protect your own butts. That is what I think Patterson and Nash (affectionately known as "PatterNash" locally) have done in this situation.

Meanwhile, there is an empty locker in the Blazer lockeroom. The guys have to see it on a regular basis. I can't see how this is helping anything. I was angry when this story first came out. I love animals and it upset me to think that anyone, especially one of "my" Blazers would do such a thing. Time has passed and this story has been swept under the rug. I don't know the facts but I know the rumors. It doesn't look good for Q, but if he hasn't been charged, let the kid play! It's the right thing to do.

1/14 UPDATE: Hey Dwight Jaynes. You reading my blog too? ;) Great Great point about Kobe Bryant!

Blazers vs Washington Wizards

The "rubber game". That is what tonight's game could be. The win in Philly was a potential turning point for Portland. The guys are 1-1 so far on this 6 game road trip. I say a win tonight will be a good sign that the Blazers may be finding their land legs. I say this because we are dealing with a different roster and we have added a decent player in James Thomas. Winning game 3 could easily propel the Blazers into wins over New Orleans and Minnesota. We stand poised for change, I'm hoping this is it.

The Wizards have been playing suprisingly well. Gilbert Arenas scored 40 Saturday, leading his team to victory over the struggling T-Wolves. The Wizards have won 5 in a row. We all know what happens to streaks-they end. Here's to hoping the Wiz streak ends tonight!
Game Preview

UPDATE: I thought the Blazers were going to pull this off. The guys managed to get the lead with under a minute to go but a bad inbound pass, and a bit of a mess after that, the "rubber game" bounced against the Blazers and we lost by 4. It was a good fight and showed that there is improvement on the Blazer team that Blazer fans can take comfort in. There were glimpses of the Theo we have been pining for. Ruben was hustling. Damon and Nick were scoring. That is a good thing.

DA only got 13 minutes...hmmm. He scored 4. The bad news is that Zach had to sit out the 4th qtr. with a hurt knee. His knee has been bothering him since San Antonio. I am thinking he should sit out now and let it heel rather than wearing it down to where it hurts all the time.

I feel bad because I know the guys are probably upset about losing such a close one. There are good things to take from this game. Let's move on. NEXT!
